Ft. Myers June 11, 2017 Fundraiser
|
I had the privilege of sharing my ministry with folks from my 2 Ft. Myers home churches: Summit Church at Gateway (my current home church) and McGregor Baptist Church (my home church during my high school years when we first moved here from Haiti) Sunday night, June 11 at my parent's home.
A Taste of Haiti finger food gave everyone a chance to taste a little Haitian food: sliced avocado and tomatoes, Haitian rice and beans and chicken in sauce (made by a nearby Haitian restaurant), fresh mango (real Haitian mangos imported from Haiti!), pineapple upside down cake and Haitian cola (imported from Haiti, too). It was a taste of home for me, several who'd been to Haiti enjoyed food they'd grown to love and everyone else found new flavors they liked. |
We had fun with some of the same activities that we did at the Tampa event...a scavenger hunt, raffle draws for gifts from a collection of Haitian made items, my Dad shared a bit then I was able to talk.
This opportunity gave me a chance to share more details about my ministry and my financial needs. I answered questions and was really blessed by everyone's interest in where I'd be living, what my ministry would look like and exactly what funds I needed.
Thank you to everyone who came and participated! It was a great evening.
Pray with me that these fundraising events will indeed result in helping me raise the funds I need in order to leave for Haiti.

Tampa February 11, 2017 Fundraiser
|
The February 11, 2017 Tampa fundraiser was a lot of fun! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make it possible as well as all those who came out to support me.
A local Haitian pastor's wife, Mary, came a day early and began cooking the Haitian meal. She and my dad cooked all day and into the next day. My mom was there helping with the decorating and organizing everyone. Quite a number of other friends came and helped set up the lighting, sound system, tables, chairs, finished the decorating details and much more. It was a beautiful, cool Florida night out under the canopy of beautiful oak trees and a full moon. |
A scavanger hunt of Haitian facts started the evening. Folks were able to browse a table of Haitian made products as well as an RMI display table. We all enjoyed christian Haitian praise music, a powerpoint showing the beauty of Haiti and an amazing Haitian meal of chicken in sauce, rice and beans, potato and beet salad, boiled plantains, pineapple upside down cake and Haitian cola. Throughout the evening we had more than a dozen raffles chosen giving the winners their choice from the Haitian made product table. We even taught everyone a Haitian praise song.
I was humbled and pleased when 2 mentors and a pastor who has known me for a long time asked to speak. They shared of how they'd gotten to know me and followed me in my life's journey. Their words of approval of me as well as their confirmation of God's will in my life were very encouraging and affirming.
RMI's president, Dan Shoemaker (ok, he's my dad, too!), shared about RMI's many ministries and how the leadership see me fitting into what God is doing there.
I've shared with so many people of my need for support, but this fundraiser gave me the chance to much more clearly lay out my support needs. The evening ended with everyone gathering around me and joining my grandfather (who founded RMI) as he prayed for me. What a wonderful experience!
God blessed and I'm happy to share that I received funds that will go towards my one-time costs and also gained some new supporters.
All in all, it was a great kick off to my support raising! Thank you again to everyone for making it possible.
